HALIFAX IN BLOOM!

First page news!  Our boys from the PRU working in Halifax Town to make this an attractive place to be.  The Halifax Ambassadors liaise to ensure these events can take place.  Well done everyone the plants look great!

                    2006

       Hello from the PRU

Want to know more about us?  Read further below in our new booklet 2006.  Further activities and pictures will be added to as the year progesses. See also recipes the boys have researched and made with lovely results.  The proof is in the tasting!

Once again our children will be participating in Halifax with the Ambassadors for "Halifax in Bloom".   The PRU children will be active in planting bulbs in the town for all to enjoy and admire.  This is an outing they particularly look forward to.

They also visit an allotment weekly and learn new gardening skills such as building a compost, growing beetroot and carrots, cutting down nettles planting new potatoes and their latest achievement making a garden pond. The boys made devining rods (water finders) where they could anticipate where to find the water.  These are just a few of the activities which they enjoy as every week there is a new challenge. The boys have sunk a bath in preparation for making a pond where they hope it will attract frogs and later be able to watch the frog spawn grow.

The PRU children have a lively and enjoyable curriculum with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities and also trips out.  Through all this enrichment as you will see the unit has achieved the Healthy Schools Award which we are all very proud.

Enrichment time for children in the PRU offers a wide choice of activities which the childen take part in for a set number of weeks.  The chosen activities which the children have chosen are woodwork, street dancing, model making, rugby/football where he children are coached by the Halifax Football coaching team and previously the Blue Sox.

Here is a recipe which the children found on the internet and enhanced the layout with the use of Publisher.  They all enjoyed baking the bread and the tasting was much better!

Text Box: Calderdale Council via Philip Schofield have very generously supplied litter pickers for the PRU children to use to keep the school grounds clear of dropped litter. These have also been used on occasion to remove litter in the community in a small supervised group.

The children are very much enjoying the new extended playground and the adventure playground which is now well loved.

As Easter approaches the children will be trying their hand at glass painting, a gift for parent or carer.

The children have been on a trip to Ponderosa - 4th May 2006.  This was enjoyed by the children very much.  They were able to hold some of the animals and feed others.  Ponderosa is very pretty at present, abundant with spring flowers, hanging baskets sculptured animal shrubs and small Italian style gardening. Tadpoles were swimming in the pond which fasinated the boys.  There was much to see and a great day for all!

Once again the children will be planting in Halifax with the town ambassadors in Woolshops on 26th June.  This is an enjoyable event for the children and an instant colour boost for the shops flower tubs at Woolshops.

The Youth Offending Team

30th July 2006 The children have been kayaking at Mixenden with the Youth Offending Team and PC Rowe.  The weather has been fantastic today and the children thouroghly enjoyed the activities which had been organised.  They are awaiting the next invitation for other trips.  Many thanks to those concerned.
