Unit 1A: An introduction to modelling

In this unit children learn that a computer can be used to represent real or fantasy situations. They understand that the representation is not an exact replica of the original. They discuss the main differences and similarities between a representation and the original. They create their own representations of real or fantasy situations.

Children should be able to apply what they have learnt in this unit when exploring adventure programs or simulations.

2Simple Modelling Toolkit is aimed at the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. It consists of a suite of five core modelling activities, each with three differentiated levels, known as tasks. Each activity has been designed with opportunities to support core subject areas. It can be used to teach ICT or as a resource to support Literacy/English.

So far this year we have had cross curricular links with History and famous people which include David Beckham, Neil Armstrong, The Beatles and Louis Braille.

This will continue after half term with Guy Fawkes, Monet, Mary Seacole, Florence Nightingale and Father Christmas.
